Welcome & Introductions
 Sonya provided an overview of PPITT:
o Each April, PPITT publishes an annual resource directory.
o Hosts an annual resource fair.
o Maintains an email distribution list and shares events on Facebook and
the PPITT website.

 Attendees introduced themselves.

Guest Speaker: Troy Sanders – PEAK Parent Center
 PEAK is Colorado’s statewide Parent Training and Information (PTI) Center,
federally funded under IDEA.
 Mission: Provide training, information, and technical assistance to better equip
families.
 Core Values: Disability equality is a civil rights issue; promote equity, advocacy,
and inclusion.
Peak parent center Primary Projects:

  1. Parent Training and Information Center (PTI): Provides training, advocacy, and
    leadership support.
  2. Personal Networks: Builds long-term circles of support for individuals and
    families, promoting inclusion, security, and future planning.
  3. Project POWER: Funded through an RSA grant to serve a regional cohort of
    parent centers.
  4. Regional Technical Assistance Center (RTACT): Provides coaching and capacity-
    building to parent centers across states.
    PEAK Services & Resources:

 Parent advisors offer one-on-one consultation, guidance on navigating special
education, and advocacy strategies.
 Resources available on IEPs, 504s, IDEA, ADA, and transition planning.
 Free training for families, professionals, and self-advocates (workshops in-person
and virtual).
 Inclusive Education Conference: statewide event with workshops, keynotes, and
networking. Transitioning from annual to multi-year format.
 Youth engagement programs: pilot mentorship, online workshops, self-paced
courses, and a Youth Resource Hub.
 Alternate dispute resolution services available.

Agency Updates & Announcements
 Special Kids Special Families: Annual fundraiser on Friday, September 26th,
6–10 PM – Night of Comedy. Website: SKSFcolorado.org/NOC
 Sterling: DuMyon’s Martial Arts
o Annual Celebration & 10-Year Anniversary Fundraiser – September 25th,
11 AM–1 PM, 6 South 33rd Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
o Event includes demonstrations, awards, and testimonials. Lunch $35.
 A Cognitive Connection: Trunk or Treat
o October 31st. Starts at 1:00pm- At the South Parking Lot- 2020 N.

 KAAUM Enterprises (currently hiring staff).
o Announcement: Somatic Yoga Studio – hosting Caretakers Event on
Sunday, September 28th, 3–5 PM.
 Pete (The Arc of Pikes Peak Region):
o Art of Colorado hosting a Decision-Making Conference – September 27th,
9 AM–5 PM, Pueblo Convention Center, 320 Central Main St, Pueblo, CO

 PPITT Fall Dance: Flyer should be sent 9/18. Dance scheduled for October 7th,
11 AM–1 PM, Hillside Community Center. For 11th/12th grade and Transition
students. RSVP required.
 PPITT Resource Fair: Confirmed for April 16th, 2026 at Hillside Community
Center.
 Email Updates: Previous PPITT email has not been checked in one year due to
technical issues. A new email address will be created.
